Crooked River Winery

Nestled in the picturesque Gerringong Valley on the NSW South Coast, Crooked River Winery is a beloved local landmark — framed by productive vineyards and lush green dairy pastures. Formed Gardens South Coast was invited to collaborate on the landscape design and construction for an exciting new accommodation wing at this iconic South Coast venue.

The brief called for new garden spaces that felt soft, natural and sympathetic to the existing landscape character of the winery — seamlessly integrating new areas with established surrounds. Formed Gardens South Coast designed and installed garden spaces that complement both the rustic charm of the venue and the stunning natural backdrop of the Gerringong Valley.

Natural sandstone boulders were used to define and anchor spaces, adding an organic structure that feels rooted in the South Coast landscape. Robust, textural plant selections were chosen for their resilience and visual impact, including native and Mediterranean species such as Baeckea virgata compacta, Westringia fruticosa 'Jervis Gem', Santolina chamaecyparissus, Carpobrotus 'Aussie Rambler' and prostrate Rosmarinus officinalis — a palette perfectly suited to the coastal hinterland climate.

Installed across Autumn and Winter 2025, and with careful soil preparation and establishment care, the gardens flourished spectacularly when Spring arrived. The new wedding space came alive with vibrant colour and lush texture — providing a breathtaking backdrop for wedding photography and celebrations at one of the South Coast's most sought-after wedding venues.
